Perl is needed for eMediaAdmin (perl is free!). Check for perl by typing at the UNIX shell: perl -v

You should get something like:

This is perl, version 5.004_04 built for i386-linux

Copyright 1987-1997, Larry Wall

Perl may be copied only under the terms of either the Artistic License or the
GNU General Public License, which may be found in the Perl 5.0 source kit.

Some servers are setup that you can run CGI scripts with your user account permissions -- others run scripts with permissions of a www-data (or nobody) user.

eMediaAdmin works perfect if your server already runs CGIs using the user account permissions.

If your server runs scripts as www-data (or nobody) then you'll have to create a folder with full world write permissions, then let eMediaAdmin create all the files and folders it needs. Then when it is finished you can turn off the world write permissions.

Your server may require that you run CGIs (server side programs) within your cgi-bin folder.

Basically, to install eMediaAdmin, follow these steps:

cd ~/public_html
tar -xvzf emediaadmin.tar.gz
cd emediaadmin

You may need to change the permissions for index.cgi by chmod a+rx index.cgi.

Then to configure eMediaAdmin, read here for more information.
