Quickly start a caching name server on NetBSD: Setup named.conf with these extra options:
listen-on { 127.0.0.1; };
allow-query { localhost; };
allow-recursion { localhost; };
cp /etc/named.conf /var/chroot/named/etc/
cp -i /etc/namedb/* /var/chroot/named/etc/namedb/
Enable in rc.conf with:
named=yes
named_chrootdir="/var/chroot/named"
Add to /etc/resolv.conf (at beginning):
nameserver 127.0.0.1
And start with:
/etc/rc.d/named start

Later on ... I needed to listen to a NPR broadcast, but I hade a popup about real audio or Windows media player. So I installed mplayer from pkgsrc. This included a codecs package. Then I clicked on the npr webpge popup "play in standalone player". This downloaded a XML file with a .wax extension. I played it with:

mplayer -playlist npr3800.wax
Worked immediately!. Funny it said on my console:
Thank you for downloading a media file containing proprietary and
patented technology.
NPR should use Ogg Vorbis to offer audio files...
